2nd December 2022

The children have worked really hard this week completing a variety of assessments. In the middle of the week, we went on our school trip to The Natural History Museum and towards the end of the week we became very festive to see in the beginning of December, finishing off with our well earned movie and treat afternoon.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Marble Jar!

Ruby class have filled up their marble jar! Tomorrow afternoon they will receive their reward time.

After a class vote, a movie and popcorn was the most popular option. Children can bring in a blanket, pillow and a teddy (that fits inside a carrier bag) if they wish, but please can they use a named bag to store them until the afternoon.

They will have popcorn and chocolate upon request from the children, if they would like to bring their own snack in as well they can.

A great way to end assessment week!

Wednesday 30th November

Yesterday, Ruby class went to The Natural History Museum and we all had a fad day!

We travelled up by train and tube and walked to the Natural History museum. They explored, read and consolidated learning about earthquakes and volcanoes in the morning. We had lunch and then went and explored the dinosaurs and insects before heading back on the train and tube.

A great day with lots of new learning experiences!

25th November 2022

We have had a great week with lots of amazing learning happening!

We started off the week celebrating St Edmunds day where the children made flags, crowns and took part in archery. The children have been working hard and we finished our unit of addition and subtraction in maths. In English, the children produced and wrote an amazing diary entry on the kings behalf based on our class text ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’. We have also learnt how shadows are formed and the children investigated, using torches, how shadows change as a light source gets closer and further away from an object.

On Wednesday we are off to the Natural History Museum! Please can you bring your child to Swanley train station for 9:10am.

Children should wear full school uniform, school shoes and wear a suitable coat. They will need a packed lunch in a rucksack with plenty of water to drink.

Please collect your child at 3:20pm, again from Swanley Station.

Looking forward to next week:

It is assessment week next week. The children will be completing a series of assessments along with designing, creating and producing an electrical poster as their DT project.

On Monday morning we had a visit from Jaws ‘n’ Claws and the children loved it! There were a range of different animals that they were able to touch and handle and were also taught interesting facts about each animal.

11th November 2022

In maths this week we have been learning about written methods to add and subtract. We have been using the column method all week and the children have all worked really hard on this.

We also wrote a balanced argument during English based on our new class text ‘The King who Banned the Dark by Emily Haworth-Booth, writing reasons why the king should or shouldn’t ban the dark.

In science this week, the children have been using torches to investigate what materials and objects are reflective and they continued this during their independent learning.

Reading – Accelerated Reader

You should have received a letter today from Mr Hulme regarding Accelerated Reader, our new comprehension reading programme in school. This is a really exciting addition to the school and will help your children become better readers. This week, they should have been given a book at the correct level for them. We will give them the opportunity to take quizzes in school time, you will not be able to complete these at home. Please do encourage them to read every night and hear them read to ensure their fluency is as good as it can be. We are awaiting a new delivery of books which will be added to the AR system so watch this space!

Parent Consultations

Parents meetings are on Tuesday (15th) and Wednesday (16th) next week. If you have not booked an appointment yet, please do so on the website. This will also mean that there will be no after school clubs run by teachers this week.

Reminder about uniform

Full school uniform should be worn every day, including blazers and ties, apart from a PE day (only Thursday) where PE uniform is required. Children do not need to bring in or wear blazers on a PE day.

Looking forward to next week:

Book fair after school Monday to Thursday in the KS2 hall.

Tuesday – Parent Consultations

Wednesday – Parent Consultations

Thursday – PE

Friday – Children in Need. Children are able to come into school dressed in ‘spots’ to help raise money for Children in Need. In return, we ask that if your child takes part in wearing spots, please can you donate £1 to go towards this charity. Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Next term

We had a very busy but great end to last term and our next term is approaching quickly!

This term we will only have PE on a Thursday so please come into school in PE kit.

Also, at the end of last term, the children were really keen on making a pitta bread pizza. The pitta breads, cheese and tomato puree will be provided but if your child would like to make a pitta bread pizza and would like to add on other toppings (such as peppers, ham, sweetcorn etc.) then if possible please can they bring it in with them. Thank you!

This week:

Monday – outdoor learning afternoon. Please wear appropriate forest school clothing and bring a pair of wellies or old trainers to wear. From last term, a lot of children already have their wellies in school.

Thursday – PE

Hope you have had a lovely half term and see you all next week!

21st October 2022

What a great end to a fantastic term! I can’t believe we have completed our first term already!

This week we have been busy with lots of different learning. In maths we focused on adding and subtracting larger numbers and wrote an essay all about Ancient Greece. We had our last forest school session which the children loved and painted our Ancient Greek pots that we have been designing and creating in art. As well as all that, the children have produced some amazing learning during their independent provision time and have cooked, practiced orange words, produce some incredible fact files and acrostic poems. Everyone has been really busy this week!

I hope you all have a lovely half term and well done for a great start to year 3!

16th October 2022

The last week of term is approaching!

The children were really busy last week working hard on adding and subtracting ones, tens and hundreds from a given number and planning our writing in English. In science this term, we have been learning all about our bodies, how to stay healthy, how to look after them and how our bones and muscles allow us to move.

Next week, during our independent learning the children have asked if they could bake cookies, brownies and cupcakes! Our classroom will be smelling very delicious! We already have quite a lot of supplies in our class (like sugar, plain flour, self-raising flour, pasta, baking soda) but anything extra your child would like to add into their creations like chocolate chips, decorations for cupcakes, coco powder etc please can you see if you have any spare for your child to bring in.

Looking forward to next week:

Monday – homework books due back.

Wednesday – PE

Thursday – forest school / PE and end of term disco after school.

Friday – last day of term!

Have a lovely weekend!
